Planning for "The Big Trip" or even a smaller one?

The Australian Local Government Association link is now available from the links page on our website under the category "Planning a Trip?".

This is a really good resource for planning your trips. The Australian Local Government Association has links to the websites of 629 councils Australia Wide.

Local government websites provide a wealth of information about their shire. Apart from the  information posted for ratepayers the majority of local government websites also provide locality maps, location maps, history of the shire, accommodation, coming events, tourist attractions, caravan parks and other facilities, and permits required (if any).

A note regarding permits: Some aboriginal shire councils have permit requirements. Permission to enter must be obtained from some aboriginal shire councils prior to your arrival.

Under the Local Government (Aboriginal Lands) Act, permission must be obtained from council for entry to all shire lands. Permission must also be obtained to camp and travel to other areas within the shire for overnight camping.

Some aboriginal shire councils also have requirements regarding the transportation and carraige of alcohol.

Wherever you travel in Australia you will pass through a number of local government areas. This link will prove to be an excellent resource in planning your trips.
